Excerpts

.....

“A fairy tale!” Said Kamal with excitement.

Abiel hung his head. It seemed as if something had pricked him in his soul.  Tears formed in his eyes and came to the edge almost flowing over. Mr. Harris saw this and hurriedly said, “No stories tonight. It’s enough for today. You can go to your bedroom. Uncle Abiel is tired.” And then turning back to Abiel he said, “I’m sorry if he said something he shouldn’t have…  I apologize for the boy.”

Abiel wiped away the tears and looked up. He said with a smile, “its fine. No problem. Just a random memory. The boy can stay…”

He then turned to the boy and said, “But this is a realistic fairy tale. It isn’t made up.”

“But you need to promise me that you won’t interrupt me while I’m telling you the story.” He said.
“Hmm... I promise I won’t.” Kamal said.

Abiel looked at the fire. The yellow flames licked out just the way they did so many years ago. Love was like a fire he thought. It provided warmth and protection. Everything about it was great except one small problem. He was the wood it burnt.

Perched upon a tree so high
 Rustling in the breeze
A pair of lovebirds sat together
Together in love and grief…
“It’s time to part” said one of them,
“But do know that I loved you,
How can fate be so cruel to us?
 Ah! Goodbye o dear…, goodbye to you…”

But the other one just sat there
Holding on to the moments sway
And looking into its eyes it said,
“Tell me no more you’re away…
I’ll wait till u return or I’ll follow
And it’s not a goodbye… not today…”
